So, when you move into a new house, you don't know yet of any access-points for little critters to come in. You don't know if there are already a few occupents living there.

Last night, we discovered two.

For a whle now we've been hearing little noises in the closet under the stairs. The wall of this closet sits right behind the couch. While we watch movies at night, there's always some sort of extra little noise in the background.

I was up one night while Matt was at work, and the girls were sleeping. I heard some banging in the kitchen, and snuck out quietly to catch the little intruder.
Sure enough, he was trying to sneak a peanutbutter cup behind the cupboard, but I scared him away. That moment, I felt kind of bad for him. I knew now that I had proof he was here, there would soon be a trap set, and he'd be a goner. I did him a favour, and unwrapped that peanutbutter cup and put it nicely in the drawer for him.
Bad idea, I know.

A week later Matt comes home with sticky traps! Yuck! Why he would get those, I have no idea. The little guy will be stuck on a sheet of cardboard, and then thrown in the trash? Gross.
He assured me he would be as humane as possible.

The first attempt was a fail. The mouse chewed his way off the trap. Great! Now we're going to have a partly bald little rodent running around our house. Ugh.

Last night he tried again. This time knowing we would be up, and able to hear when the mouse gets caught.

Not two hours later, we had him. Poor little guy. Felt bad, but good riddance. We don't need that.

Just as Matt was dealing with our furry little friend, Gracie woke up, and so I ran upstairs to lay down with them, and eventually...fell asleep.

I woke up the next morning and found q-tips, olive oil, and a nicely prepared cage complete with pine shavings, a peanutbutter cup, and toilet paper roll furnishings.
Matt wanted to show the girls our newest little friends, so actually used the oil to get them off the trap. (If you didn't figure that one out on your own.)

So our rodents are gone, and we didn't have to use any violence. :)
I thought the whole thing was hilarious, and post-worthy. Especially since everyone lives happily-ever-after.

*Note* My husband is not crazy.
...I swear.

our friday

After going out for breakfast today, the girls and I went over to Kristyn's house to make some Halloween crafts. Kristyn always has such good ideas.
We made kleenex ghosts and little egg carton spiders. They were very cute...unfortunately we forgot them at her house, so you'll have to believe me. :)
After a while it was past Hanna's normal nap time, so I thought we should hit the road.
We got home, and Hanna gladly snuggled in with Matt, and Gracie and I started a new project.

Can you guess what we made?
Normally you wouldn't use vanilla caramel creamer for this, but we thought since it's all we had, it would make our special treats even yummier!
Any idea?
Give up?
Yeah, so you probably knew right away what it was, but I had to add some sort of drama to the post. :)
We unwrapped about 200 little caramels to make 24 of these puppies.
We plan on giving out about 7 for all the little trick-or-treating members of the family, and keeping the rest for us.

I think all the adults will get one too. :)
Now you wish you were coming to my house on Sunday, doncha?

Happy Friday everyone!

sleepovers and pumpkins

I've always loved Halloween. I'm always the one to do the scary decorating at the house, and anxious to do pumpkin carving.
Since Matt and I got married, he's been really into it too. Although this year we didn't even decorate our own house, we did up my parent's house every year.
Sunday night after dinner at my mom and dad's, Gracie asked them if she could sleep over. She said "mama, I think I should sleep in Nanny's bed, because she misses me."
Of course they told her she could. I decided I would stay as well. Yuli (remember, she took over the basement apartment) offered to share her bed with Hanna and I. After arguing with her for a while, I gave up, and Hanna and I snuggled in with her. We talked pretty much all night long, in the dark. It was really nice. I miss sharing a room with my sister, and this reminded me of it.
Hanna ended up waking up at about 2:30am, and didn't want to be down there anymore, so we ended up on the couch.
All was good.
In the morning, we had breakfast, and coffee with my mom, and she had to leave with Kristyn for a while. This is when Yuli and I took off and took the shots (that so many of you loved - thanks) of Hanna outside.
After a while, I took a nap with Hanna in my mom's bed, and Yuli played with Gracie and took her to pick up some pumpkins to carve! I'm learning that Yuli probably loves Halloween more than I do. :)
Anyhow, they picked up five pumpkins. One for my mom and dad, Timmy (my brother), Matt, Me, and Yuli.
We had lots of fun.

Have I ever mentioned that I have the best family, ever?

Hanna's Birthday Pics FAILED.

 Okay, okay...not a total fail...
We did get some really good shots of her perfect little smile, and happy self, but we didn't get that "perfect shot".

We (Yuli and I) started out in the field at my mom and dad's. We had this brilliant plan to bring her new chair out to get some cute chair-in-the-field shots.
As soon as we got out there, the horses came over to greet us and wouldn't leave us alone! :) We did get a couple cute shots with them just for fun.
After we gave up out there, we thought we'd try the trail at the beach.
Yep, we brought the dang chair.
Do you think she'd sit on it, though?!
 Of course not.
 Then she got too sleepy...
So we quit.
Better luck next time!
We will get that shot!

I love how she still has those little baby-fat hands! :)

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

Yesterday we celebrated our little Hanna's birth! What a day that was, two years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. Everything was perfect, aside from a complication I had afterward. Another little girl. She was perfect. Little did we know she had a few unique characteristics, which only make her that much more special. If you haven't already, you should really learn about Hanna by clicking right here.

So, the day started great. We woke up, Gracie and I gave Hanna a great big birthday kiss, and she sang hummed herself Happy Birthday. After that, the day went downhill. Hanna was doing everything she could to be bad. I'd tell her to come and get dressed, and she'd put her head down and walk in the opposite direction. I ask her to put her foot in her shoe, and she puts her foot behind her. She was just bad!
It was Friday, and every Friday we go out for breakfast with Nanny, my mom, Aunt Patti-Lynn, and whoever can make it. I usually try to go with the girls. It's just nice.
It was 9:30, and I still hadn't eaten breakfast, since we were going out. But my stomach wanted food. As soon as we got to the restaurant, I got sick. Blah!
Breakfast was okay after that, and we picked up a couple things so I could go home and get ready for Hanna's party.
I didn't get anything I needed! Not sure where my head was, but there was so much I needed that I didn't have.
Like...dishsoap, for the sinkfull of dishes I had in there since the day before, and another cake mix since I had already destroyed two cakes, and a rectangular pan to bake the cake in!
I can go on.
Kristyn is a life saver. She actually baked a cake for me, and delivered it to my house with a bag of milk and dishsoap. saver. Thanks again Kristyn!

Anyhow, after that, everything seemed to go great.
Here's my cake.
But wait! It's not just an ordinary cake!
Look again!

I wanted to do something special, and since Hanna loves lights, and anything to do with them, my mom came up with the idea to have a light up cake. I didn't think it would be possible to do, but I guess it turned out!

Next, party pictures!
Note to other parents at the party (my sisters):
Yes, you're kids are almost as cute as Hanna is, but she was the birthday girl so below are ONLY pictures of her. :)

She was checking out the kitty on her dress. :)
Matt wouldn't stop bugging me until he got a picture of me with Hanna. At least Hanna looks cute!

I think she liked her cake.
We let her open her gift from us first, since she could sit on it to blow her candles out, and open the rest of her gifts.

Time for presents!!
She got lots of musical toys that of course also light up. :)

She also got lots of little clothes complete with adorable pony tail holders.
Michelle's card was so cool. It was a wooden clip holder that said Hanna's name on it, and below it, she put thumb tacks in it to spell her name in braille. My explanation doesn't sounds very good...but it was awesome! I don't have a picture of it though!  Darn-it!
She had a blast opening each present. There was a lot (almost too much) going on, but she did so good!
I think she had a great party.
Thanks everybody for coming and making her day so special!
Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

Not quite 2 yet but...

Hanna had her first of three Birthday parties last night! It's not her birthday until Friday, which is when we'll celebrate with my side of the family. Last night we had a little celebration at Gram's with Brendan and Matt's mom's birthdays.
Hanna knew when it was her turn for the birthday song (which I will mention that she's been humming to herself for about a month), because her eyes lit up, and she got a huge smile on her face. She waited until everyone finished singing, and (tried) to blow out the candles! She's funny, because she can blow bubbles, and into noise makers, but to blow out her candles, she makes the "F" noise, which doesn't go too far. :)
Then she stuck her hand in the cake that Gram made for her, and tried it before everyone else.

After cake, she opened presents. She did a great job with that, and barely let Gracie and Ayden help her.

She loved this dog until it came out of the box and started walking around. It only took once to run into her leg, and that was it. He'll have to keep his distance for a little while I think.  Other than that, her little party was a success!
Thanks everyone!
