tids and bits

Whew! We had a busy day today!

It started out pretty early (like every day lately) around 7:00. I fed the kids, got a load of wash in finally, and cleaned up a bit because I had an appointment to set Hanna up with Special Services at Home. We qualify for the program and decided that we would use it for respite services. The awesome thing, and only reason why we're doing it, is that my mom is a respite worker! She will be able to take Hanna, or come over probably 4 hours a week to "relieve" us. :)  We don't need relief at all, but my mom will work with her in all different ways to help with her development. My mom would do it just to spend time with her, but as a bonus will even make money doing it. Awesome!! I'm excited to see what she does with her!
Right now we're on a waiting list, so I'll update on that when I know more.

Anyway, after that appointment, I called our family doctor to schedule an appointment for Hailey, for a weigh-in. I used to work there, and know the receptionist, and she told me to go right in because the waiting room was empty. I woke up Matt to stay with the girls and took Hailey into town. Dr. D was happy with her weight at 11 lbs 5oz. Chunky Monkey!
Here she is doing her exercise for the day!

Wow, that's hard work!

We also got in the mail, Hanna's new helmet! She needs one to go on the bike and in the bike trailer, and there's none that fit her little head.
SO, my friend Jenn told me about this helmet that she was thinking about buying for her daughter. I thought it was perfect, and was worth a shot. It's still a bit too big, even after I took a needle and thread to the elastic on the back, but it'll work with a little more rigging.
Gracie wanted to sport her helmet too, since I made Hanna put hers on for a picture.

So we wont need to make her a little coconut helmet this year after all! Thanks Jenn!!

zoo to you

Today we attended a little party/BBQ that CNIB put together. It was an opportunity to meet other parents and for the girls to meet some new friends.
We had a good time, but the highlight of the day was Zoo To You. All the kids (who were willing) got to get up close and personal with some pretty cool creatures!

You can tell Hanna wasn't into the reptiles. We tried to get her to touch even just one, but it was a no-go.
I think she might have liked "Thomas" the tortoise.

Everyone was feeding "Roo" cheezies. I guess Gracie didn't want to give hers up. :)
Hanna loved the kangaroo. Especially when he was hopping all over the room looking for an escape route.

I was surprised with how much Gracie was into the lizards. She even almost held a tarantula.

Hailey wasn't on her best behaviour. She was either with me behind the camera, or with Matt outside. In case you wondering where she was during all of this. :)

We had a nice, big thunderstorm early this morning that helped get us all out of bed. Well...that, and little miss Hailey.
We got up and decided we would have a lazy day at home. I put Tarzan in the DVD player, and finally got some laundry done.
Later, after the storm and rain cleared up, the girls went outside to puddle jump.
They found some friends while they were out there.

Curse the mayflies.
If you don't have the pleasure of having these little bugs visit you every year, count your blessings! They overstay their welcome, let me tell you. They're stupid little things, to sum it up. They live from 30 minutes to 2 days long. They don't even have mouths! As my uncle says "you know you're at the bottom of the food chain when you're born without a mouth!".
Usually, we get millions of them. And they plaster themselves all over your house, car, grass, your shirt as your walking out the door, pretty much anywhere they land. Then they shed their skin, and die. Lovely huh?
Luckily, we've only had a handful of them so far. I'm hoping they mostly stay away this year. Such a nuisance! But if not, at least the girls like them! :)

Had to get one of her little bum in the air...
...and this one, well it was just to sweet not to post!

visit with jody

Yesterday Jody came to work with Hanna for a while. We hadn't seen her for a while with everything going on (with us, and her), so I was looking forward to this visit.
She was pleasantly surprised with all the words Hanna's putting together now,
"here you go"
"gonna get you"
"here I am"
and the new words she hadn't heard her say before:
"play dough"
"thank you"
To name just a couple. It was the first time I heard her say "play dough" too, because it's been so long since we played with it. She never used to like the feel of it, so we put it away for a while.
Jody brought some over, and you should have seen he go to town with it! She was rolling it with a rolling pin, making "cookies", tearing it apart and feeding it to little toy animals.
I was impressed. She went from not wanting to touch the stuff to getting it all over her hands and under her fingernails.
Jody also reminded me how much better she's doing with "hand-over-hand" activities. Hanna would not allow anyone to hold her hand and "make" her do something with it. Now she does. No problem.
So once again, in the short hour she was here, Jody saw big gains in Hanna.
Keep it up little girl!

our weekend and little miss chunk

We took the girls out for ice cream, and decided to try Hailey out in the snuggly.
She did awesome! I'm so glad she likes it. Hanna hated it. Gracie loved it. I remember it really came in handy with Gracie. If I ever needed to leave for a little while, Matt wouldn't take any chances. He would strap on the snuggly and take Gracie for a walk, and she'd be happy as a pig in poop.
I've already used it to do dishes, and make dinner. It's really coming in handy again. :)
Here's a picture of miss chunky herself. I don't have many yet. This one's not too flattering, but she's pretty cute. She's to the point of chunkiness, where I can't do up the last leg snaps, or the top snap on her onesies.

And here's some of the girls, just for fun.

Remember this post? Well here is the famous water fountain.

There were no accidents this time though. :)

new pediatrician...

...or should we say, our old, new pediatrician.

Yeah, we weren't a big fan. Since our last pediatrician retired, I've been anxiously waiting to meet with our new one he referred us to.
To start things off, she wouldn't even weigh Gracie, because the appointment wasn't for her. Common, seriously? The kid is four years old. She wanted to be weighed. Humour her for cryin' out loud.
That rubbed me the wrong way right from the start. I think that's why I didn't have much patience after that.
She went over Hanna's file for ten minutes, and then asked us to start from the very beginning and tell her everything we went through with Hanna. Fine. All good.
Then she asks if Children First is working with her. I tell her CNIB comes to the house to work with Hanna in every way, and they can get us into Children First anytime they or us, as parents, think she would benefit from it. Her reply to that was, "what's CNIB?".
I chuckled to myself to help my face from giving away how annoyed I was at this point. How could she not know what CNIB was? She's a pediatrician! But whatever. Moving on.

Hanna hands me a book she wants to look at, and Dr. Disappointment starts calling her.
Hanna, being the stubborn, snotty two year old she is, ignored her, causing Dr. D to become concerned about her hearing.
A hearing test, which is now scheduled, would be a total waste of time. We know Hanna can hear probably better than the rest of us can.
These things might not sound like a big deal, but they were to me. Our old doctor was so good with Hanna. He knew her.
Maybe I'm just not so good with change. I don't know. But I do know that it's not worth a 45 minute drive to visit a doctor we're not overly impressed with.
Needless to say, I don't think we'll be going back to her.
We did get Hailey checked over too, and she got an A+, but I think we'll be making the trip to our family doctor for their next visit.

picture of the day

I attempted to do Gracie's very late Birthday pictures today.
Not too many turned out, but I thought this one was cute, so had to share.
