a nice day for an ice day!

Although our winter so far has been pretty crappy, as far as weather goes, we're still making the most of it!
It's been mild, and muddy...
Once in a while we get cold enough to have a bit of snow...but then it thaws.
Then, we may get a few days below zero to make us some ice.
We have our own little skating rink in the field next to the house. It flooded in the fall, and now freezes up nicely when it's cold enough.  So, we have a sledding hill, and a mini rink basically in our backyard! We headed out there today and played on the ice for a while, then went for a walk to do some exploring. Of course I didn't bring my camera, but we had quite a list going of everything we saw on our little adventure. Including our crazy little pup chasing four poor doe through the field just meters away from us.
Have I mentioned that we live in the BEST spot?
After coming back inside and getting everyone toasty with some hot chocolate, we spent some time at Nanny's pond.
Kristyn brought the sticks, pucks, and nets, and Mom and dad brought {more} hot chocolate!
Hanna tried out skates for the first time! This is the first year she's been brave enough to even put them on. Let's not forget how careful she always has been. She needs practice, but she did great for her first time!
Hailey also had a go. A first for her as well! They both did great!
(**Side note**-See that gold van? It's ours! Yay! Thanks Aunt Tina and Uncle Chris! We now have a heated vehicle!)
That rope has been hanging on the same little branch since I was small enough to swing on it. :)

After everyone got too cold and damp, we headed over to Mom and Dad's for Sunday dinner. I think it was a Sunday well spent.

unseasonably warm

We've been having spring-like weather around here.
We try to get out as much as we can, and our first choice is just the short walk to my parent's house.
My favourite little clan to walk with. This is on our way home. :)

how things have changed

This happened tonight:

*Matt is strumming his guitar racking his brain on which chords are being played in a song he's trying to learn*

Matt: "Curse you Bram! I'll get this guys, hang on. Why did he have to change the song just a little?! Gracie, play it again for me."

*Gracie plays the song again on the boom box*

Hanna and Hailey: "Hey! Mr. Spaceman! Wait, Daddy, that's not how it goes!"

*Playing a very close, but not exact version of Mr. Spaceman by the Byrds.*

The kids: "YOU GOT IT! Heeeeey Mr. Spaceman! Won't you please take me along for a ride!"

Matt: "Yes. I rock."

Me: "Good job, Hunny!"

That's Matt. Learning a song, just so the kids can sing along. Leave it to Sharon, Lois and Bram to change it just enough to be a challenge for him. :)

hair cut

Well, Miss Hanna needed a hair cut. I've been debating for a while. I waited until after Christmas so that I could curl it up all nice, and take advantage of the length.
Today was the day to cut some of that length off though. Her little face gets lost in all that hair. The fact that she turns into a little demon every time I try to brush it helped in my decision too!
Before:
 It was long!

 After:
Doesn't she look so grown up?!
As she was checking out her new 'do, she says "Hey, mom! You did a great job! I like my new look!"

Gotta love this girl.

Happy New Year!

I think it's a new tradition to spend New Year's Day at my parent's house for dinner and Chinese food!

We stayed in our pajamas all. day. long.

The kids always have such a messed up sleep schedule for the entire holidays, so this is always the first day that we can let them just sleep, and not have to worry about getting them up (or ourselves for that matter!) for anything. Well, except dinner. :)
So, we had a lazy day.

At this point, I'm always feeling a little bit of the post-Christmas blues.
I got them again, but this time they didn't last long. I made it a point this year to not let them get to me. I always feel like we rush through the holidays. So much celebrating all at once, when it's done, it's kind of depressing!
But in reality, there is absolutely nothing depressing about it.
Yeah, decorations come down, carols turn off, and everything goes back to "normal".
Normal though, is pretty dang good.

Another Christmas done, and another year beginning, is reason in itself for celebration - every single day, all year long.

So, my one and only New Year's Resolution is to enjoy every single day. To not sweat the small stuff. To not worry about things that aren't even happening. To be completely content with what is happening now, and live for today - not yesterday, or tomorrow.
To celebrate this life every day.

Chinese food sure helps kick-start it in the right direction too!
:)

2016...Here we go!
